Why are we a nursery? The answer is simple. We still grow, or ‘nurse’, a large amount of the plants that are sold, here on our fifteen acre site.
All of our bedding plants, patio plants and vegetables are produced here starting in February, continuing through the season until July when production shifts to autumn and winter bedding which ceases in September.
At least 60% of our shrubs and climbing plants are grown here from young plants purchased from top UK growers. These young plants, or “Liners”, are planted into larger containers in the months of June, July and August. They are then placed in our growing area and cared for until they reach retail suitability.
For some varieties this will be in the autumn but for most it will be spring next year. Some stock is retained and potted on further into even larger containers to produce a range of larger sized shrubs.
Currently we grow most of our larger pot herbaceous perennials. This is a very similar process to the shrub potting although we aim to sell out by about September when we use brought in stock to supplement our range.
You simply will not find this at any ‘Garden Centres’ where, quite often, plants are the least valued commodity. We know that our plants are of a high quality because we have a hands on appreciation of them from the moment they arrive, through their development until the day that they are sold. With this in mind we are proud to say that we can offer supreme quality at honest, reasonable prices.
Here at the Clockhouse Nursery we offer a wide range of plants:
Due to a very high turn around in stock, it is virtually impossible for us to provide an accurate stock list. Please contact us for any specific enquiries.
