An essential part of modern gardening is providing freshly planted plants or containerised plants with adequate levels of moisture. Most plants will require your intervention in this area until their root systems are established. Plants in pots & containers will require you to water them, especially through the summer, for most of their lives as you cannot rely on rainfall alone. Pots simply do not provide enough surface area to absorb adequate moisture from the rain that falls upon them. Even established plants will occasionally require an extra drink in the height of summer, in times of drought or even if you have a border that is particularly hot or well drained.
Experience has taught us that this is an area where things should not be done ‘on a budget’ hence we only stock hose pipe & irrigation related items from one quality supplier. Gardena provide superb quality products accross this area of horticulture. We stock the vast majority of their range including everything from hose connectors, hoses, hose reels, watering roses, sprinklers & micro irrigation etc. Their hose pipe connectors are fairly universal & will fit most other systems that employ a ‘quick release’ connection system.
Micro irrigation has become ever more popular over the last ten years as people strive to use water more efficiently, especially in London where most folks are on water meters. These systems, although having an average to high initial cost, achieve significant savings in wasted water as the moistuure can be deployed exactly where it needs to be. They can use timers for more effective regular watering through spray or drip heads. The Gardena system is one of the best on the market. Just be aware that many watering suppliers systems are not interchangeable with each other so if you have a Hozelock system, for example, the pipe, nozzles, connectors etc will not fit Gardena.
So, why only Gardena? The answer is simple. Over the years we have found that customer satisfaction has been highest with these products & unlike other manufacturers that we have tried in the past, Gardena products have the fewest returns through faults or untimely breakages.
Obviously hose systems are not the only way of watering your plants & we all should be encouraged to use water economically. With this in mind we strive to always have two or three water butt options available. We also stock the accessories required when employing a butt based method of watering i.e. down pipe connectors, watering cans & watering can extras such as replacement roses.
If you are not a fan of regular watering or it is simply too expensive for you to do so, then we urge you to pay particular attention to planting the right plant in the right place. Choosing the correct plant for a particular location is fantastic way of cutting down, or eliminating the need for extra watering.

Not many Garden Centres can boast over ninety years of history, and yes, we have seen many changes over that period. Indeed change will continue as we strive always to supply the best in plants and facilities. One thing, however, will never change:
The core philosophy first introduced by Archibald John Mills way back in 1928 remains - the philosophy that built the company’s reputation, sustains it now, and will guide it in the future:
The best way to keep gardeners happy is to offer them plants of the highest quality, sold at reasonable prices.Read more
