Through the year we stock a varying range of fruit plants. Spring is the best time of the year for our pot grown selection such as tomatoes, peppers, courgettes etc, all grown on site. This is also a great time of year for English grown culinary and medicinal herbs. The range of these increases as the weather warms up. Number 1 greenhouse is where most of our ‘small pot’ edibles are housed through the spring & summer season.
Autumn and Early winter is the best time of year for soft fruit such as blueberries, blackcurrants, gooseberries and raspberries. These are best lifted and transplanted during their dormant stages. All of our soft fruit is English grown. Purchased by us as bare root and then containerized ready for sale. Raspberries are Scottish grown and sold in packs of bare root canes, whilst blueberries are usually Dutch grown.
The Autumn period is the best time for our English, container grown fruit trees. Container grown trees are more reliable than bare root as they already have an established root system. This means that although Autumn and Spring are the best times of the year to plant out, they can actually be planted at any time of the year, avoiding mid Winter.
We offer a wide selection of apples, pears, cherries and other miscellaneous species such as damson, medlar and quince. It is our aim to provide a selection all year round, in varying root stock sizes, so that there are trees to suit all sizes of garden. Plums such as Victoria are best sold in the spring once new leaf buds have opened hence we do not stock them during the winter months.

Not many Garden Centres can boast over ninety years of history, and yes, we have seen many changes over that period. Indeed change will continue as we strive always to supply the best in plants and facilities. One thing, however, will never change:
The core philosophy first introduced by Archibald John Mills way back in 1928 remains - the philosophy that built the company’s reputation, sustains it now, and will guide it in the future:
The best way to keep gardeners happy is to offer them plants of the highest quality, sold at reasonable prices.Read more
