Hybrid tea roses are plants that produce the traditional, one rose on a stem, style of rose suitable for cut flowers. They are available as bushes, standards and climbers. Floribunda roses are, generally speaking, about the same size plants as hybrid tea but have heads of smaller flowers. They too are available as bushes, standards and climbers. Patio roses, as the name suggests, are more compact and are suited to growing in containers on your patio or drive.
Climbing roses do not actually climb unaided and will require support but are grafted to vigorous root stocks resulting in fast growth. Rambling roses are like climbers but much more vigorous, and some are close in appearance to wild hedgerow roses. Ground cover roses are low in habit and spread further than their height whilst miniature roses need no explanation.
The last category that you may find is shrub roses. These are very tough, resilient plants some with vicious thorns and old fashioned single flowers often known as dog roses. They are perfect for utility planting as they will deter people from walking through planting and can be maintained easily with a hedge trimmer.
Above these classifications, many have names that are appropriate to celebration or commemoration.
We stock roses from one of the UK’s most widely known growers, Harkness Roses . We regularly compliment their supply with roses from other growers. Across the range we can cater for most budgets & tastes. The best time of year, in terms of cultivar selection, is between October & April the following year. This is the period when rose growers have their best stock available. Availability of certain cultivars can fluctuate as growers shift from one batch to another, a factor which is out of our control.

Not many Garden Centres can boast over ninety years of history, and yes, we have seen many changes over that period. Indeed change will continue as we strive always to supply the best in plants and facilities. One thing, however, will never change:
The core philosophy first introduced by Archibald John Mills way back in 1928 remains - the philosophy that built the company’s reputation, sustains it now, and will guide it in the future:
