A perennial plant or simply perennial is a plant that lives for more than two years. The term is often used to differentiate a plant from shorter lived annuals and biennials. When used by gardeners or horticulturalists, perennial applies specifically to winter hardy herbaceous plants.
A herbaceous plant is a plant that has leaves and stems that die down at the end of the growing season to the soil level. They have no persistent woody stem above ground however there are some plants classified as evergreen perennials. These do have some leaves and stems that remain throughout the winter. How good they look during the cold months really depends on the severity of the winter itself.
We offer an extensive selection of herbaceous perennial plants. As well as the ‘Old Favourites’ such as Lupins and Delphiniums, alpine perennials, grasses and ferns can be found in the outdoor sales area at the front of our Nursery.
Our perennial plant range continues to grow, as does the period of time in which they are available. A large quantity of 2 Ltr +, size plants are still grown on site, whilst we stock different price ranges in 1 Ltr pots supplied by two of the UK’s best growers. During peak perennial months (April to June), there are regularly more than 250 different varieties available.

Not many Garden Centres can boast over ninety years of history, and yes, we have seen many changes over that period. Indeed change will continue as we strive always to supply the best in plants and facilities. One thing, however, will never change:
The core philosophy first introduced by Archibald John Mills way back in 1928 remains - the philosophy that built the company’s reputation, sustains it now, and will guide it in the future:
